Rescue & Retirement Guidelines

The problem of inadequate horse care — especially for unwanted horses — continues to grow in the United States. In an effort to address these situations, the Pennsylvania Equine Council has developed the Equine Learning Center to educate new and potential horse owners about owning responsibly. Check out our Equine Learning Center.

The PEC also recommends the retirement and rescue guidelines offered by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners is dedicated to the advancement and excellence in veterinary care. It has developed some solid guidelines for people interested in operating a retirement/rescue facility. These guidelines offer advice on things like feeds and supplements, and suggestions on a wide range of subjects from isolating a new arrival to euthanizing when necessary.
